The BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) aims to harness the skills and passion of birdwatchers to advance our understanding of ornithology and produce impartial science – communicated clearly for the benefit of birds and people. The BTO has a strong scientific emphasis to its work. BTO science covers two important aspects: monitoring and research. Our integration of the two is a significant strength of the organisation. We combine the skills and passion of birdwatchers with innovative analyses and the latest data-gathering technology. We deliver science that is impartial, impactful and relevant, informing the management of the natural world.

The BTO authors many publications which you can check out here. For a list of current BTO projects, you can visit here.

The BTO has an educational side to its activities too, and I particularly like their guides.
